This was a brilliant tutorial on the topic. Thanks Julieane for educating us so nicely in your calm and composed manner of teaching
killer tutorial skills thank you
Love the tip about ALT clicking the plus icon to get additional criteria - didn't know that before. Thank you.
UI and organization is an important yet dry topic, but you made it pleasing and easy to learn. Thank you and well done! 🎩👏
Thanks. I always wondered about smart collections
Thanks! You are the best! I wonder how much things have changed in the last 3 years?
Excellent as always Julieanne - I use the # feature in Smartcollections all the time for nested logic. BTW how many days are there in December? You may have missed some great top picks for 2023!
I think leaving Dec 31 out of the smart collection was deliberate. She did not want any pics of her celebrating New Year’s Eve to get out in the wild!😂
I was really hoping that no one would notice that... : )
@@jkost well I trust this is nice f/b for you that many of us watch YOUR videos with great interest and very carefully! And we learn heaps so thank you again. On a side note: I have noticed all the horrible things being said by many channels about the current Adobe terms and conditions. I realise this is not your purview, but is there any way to get some kind of sanity back into the conversation so we are all clear on our rights? From someone from Adobe (like you) that we trust and respect?
yes love it SColections and use it a LOT,I use to use them on Bridge. And the # on the search criteria I learn a long time ago, also with someone at Adobe, is so cool feature. Your Videos / Tutorials are fantastic, love the way you explain in a small amount of time but so precise and direct to the point have a great day
Artic (cold weather) or Arctic (geographic location) regardless ... still, a great video as always
Thank you - i think it is not possible to sync smart Collections to the LR App on the Smartphone / iPad - do you think that will come - i missed it
Thx…I was asking the same question…odd you are not able to sync smart collections…diminishes the usefulness.
Very helpful. Thank you
Another superb tutorial! Thank you for continuing to expand my Lightroom knowledge base, Julieanne!
Wonderful video. Walked through the process with you step by step. All happy on my new computer.
Lots to digest here. I will find this very useful but wil need to view a few times more to become proficient. Many thanks Julieanne.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent as always! Is there an advantage to edit in the collection or the original folder? Don't some prefer to edit via collections? Thank you!
You can edit in whichever you are more comfortable. I find that because I typically have images from multiple folders in a single collection it's easier for me to make adjustments that bring together the photo's look and feel when they're all next to one another.
Thank you, I never thought of that!
Really enjoying this series.
another great lesson. I have been using collections for years and learned several new things.😀
Incredible feature but worrying, or perhaps a disappointing development. As others have alluded to, this kind of feature is eliminating the need to know what you are doing when one takes the original photograph.
I understand where you're coming from. But even with this feature, I still bring my tilt shift lens with me when I'm making photographs. I like the ability to see the effects in real time and make adjustments at the time I click the shutter, but not everyone has a lens like that so maybe this will inspire them to see what can be done with optics. For me, it's all about the experience and the process. : )
I thought I knew everything about collections so nearly didnt bother to watch. I was really wrong. Excellent and concise as usual
Awesome, thank you!
As allways, simple and very informative. So I'm gonna guess, next Smart Colections?
Yeah, I'm pretty linear... : )
Thanks 👍
thanks
Julieanne.. thank you. I am really enjoying your recent short tutorials of tips and tricks for LR Classic. Very informative and right to the point.
Very nice video, thank you. I use LRC only for doing keyword searches, preferring to use Bridge and Photoshop with ACR in my workflow. Consequently, I wish someone would do an exhaustive video detailing keyword searching in LRC, for example how to do a keyword search where one keyword is required along with one other of two possibilities. Putting it differently, this search could be represented thusly: keyword1 AND (keyword2 OR keyword3) On a related topic, after much experimentation, I found a way to filter for two distinct words or partial words in LRC but it uses plus signs before required strings or words and only works using the keyword = "Contains All" choice, making it tedious and hard to remember. Unlike Bridge, which does all keyword searching by brute force, LRC has the potential to be a superstar in this regard but from what I can discern, such searches are all but impossible currently. Unless you know some KW searching tricks. Do you? Thanks again.
Another good video. Please keep them coming! Clear, concise, and right to the point!
Always wished there was a way to find duplicate images...I know I can't be alone with this desire
But when you import then, there is an option call Don't import suspect duplicates and if you edit and image you will have the original original and the original-edit side by side, or with virtual copy so they will be easy to spot
@@jmgcg Completely aware of that feature on import... The criteria it uses doesn't always capture duplicate images and/or duplicate file names. When you experience this you will appreciate my request (and count yourself lucky if you never need it).
Get yourself Duplicate File Finder …but of course it is outside of LR
Sure wish you would this type of tutorial for Bridge, please!!!!!
Clear concise tutorial! As always!!!
Clear and concise presentation, thanks Julieanne.
Thank you
What if Lightroom is not creating that circle spot? 1:39
When I click G to return to grid my "select" and "candidate" both are selected. I hate to click on one one of the image to deselect. What am I doing wrong?
I'm not sure - I haven't had that happen. Do both images have the white highlight around them?
@@jkost Yes, both are highlighted.
You are Julianne Kost and we LOVE your training videos, ❤
Excellent video! Just what I needed
This is a great mini series, thank you. I've used Lightroom (all versions) for a few years but I find I always pick up some new tips from your videos. I'm going to pass your link onto my local camera club as there are a few people there new to Lightroom Classic and we are doing a talk next week on LrC Collections! BTW, I tried your 'passenger seat' technique featured on Snap Happy TV when you were in Australia and found it fantastic! Cheers
Brilliant! thanks Julieanne, I will have to watch this one several times to fully absorb all the information..
And thanks for the "synchronize folder" tip. Learned something new. Thanks.
Great series Julieanne!!!
Loving this mini-series of "how to" in Lightroom Classic Julieanne. Looking forward to more please.
Outstanding teaching as well as outstanding photographs. Thanks Julieanne!
Julieanne you are such a fantastic teacher. I was at the NEC in Birmingham this year and was able to watch you teach in person. You are so humble but you really are the number one expert… I wish you knew that. No one else comes close!!!!!
Thank you for your kind words. I had such a lovely time in Birmingham. I hope to visit again soon!
I am looking forward to watching the entire series. I am learning a great deal. Thank you so much.
These are features I under-use because I never really understood them. I do now. Thanks.
That is awesome! I love hearing that!!!
Compare view needs to be implemented in Develop mode as well. I am surprised it is not available. It would be very useful for matching edits such as color grading in a series.
That is a very good point David - do you ever use Reference view? I use it a lot when trying to "match" multiple images in a sequence. I'll have a video on it later in the series, but here is a link if you're not familiar with it: jkost.com/blog/2022/07/editing-photos-using-reference-view-in-lightroom-classic.html
@@jkost thank you so much. I’ll have to give the Reference View a try. I’ve been using Lightroom for a couple years and never understood the R/A option. It does seem a little odd to me that different Modules have such similar functions with such different interfaces. I look forward to your upcoming video.
Julianne, there are many, many UA-camrs who (attempt to) explain the features of Lightroom Classic but you are the best. This particular video is so useful.
Excellent tutorial, as always. Thanks!
Awesome, Thanks for the demo.
Hello Julieanne and thank you for your tutorials. Long ago when LRC was launched I use to watch your videos and I learned a lot. You introduced yourself as a Lightroom (or Adobe?) "evangelist". And you always ended by saying "thanks for watching", something that I always found very kind of you; nobody else said at the time. But now, that phrase seems to have gone "viral"; everyone says thanks for watching. But most people probably ignore the fact that it was you who introduced it. Thank you for teaching me Lightroom and Photoshop as well. Jorge.
You are so welcome, and thank YOU for watching. 🙂
The paint tool isn't working for me. I select one photo then apply the tool, select a different photo and click but nothing happens.
Hmmm. Make sure that you are clicking on the photo's thumbnail and not the grey area surrounding it.
@@jkost I am doing that. Still not working.
@@wismokey Dang, and it's set to stars, right? I can't think of any reason why it isn't working (but I believe you!). It might be time to contact support - or, go to the forums, the engineering team and LOTS of community experts are there to help. community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/ct-p/ct-lightroom-classic
These videos are so helpful. Thanks a lot Ma'am. Really appreciate it!😃🙏
